Coronation Street’s Steven Arnold meets Apex HSC Client Andy Walker

Andy Walker and Steven Arnold met at an Apex HSC care awareness event.

Steven Arnold might be known throughout the nation as Ashley Peacock, but to Apex Health + Social Care he’s a valuable member of the team.

Taking time out yesterday to meet Apex Health + Social Care client Andy Walker, Steven heard how he had suffered a C4/C5 spinal cord injury following a diving accident in Goa six years ago and was left paraylsed from Neck down.

The pair had something in common too – Andy once was a cast member of Emmerdale, playing Steve Kelly, introduced to the role by the Back-Up Trust. Andy doesn’t let his disability control him, and like his character on ‘the other soap’ he has not let this deter him from continuing to live a full and adrenaline filled life.

Steven made the visit as part of a series of events he has helped organise with Apex HSC over the summer to raise awareness of care and support in the community.

He said of the meeting:

“It has been a privilege to have had the opportunity to meet with such an inspirational man as Andy Walker.

“We can all learn a lot from his determination to lead a full and rewarding life, having faced the massive task of adapting to a new situation and overcoming new challenges.”

Steven Arnold’s support for Apex Health + Social Care this summer will see him meeting a range of clients in receipt of care and support in the community as well as attending a number of events to raise awareness of these services and give people the chance to meet and chat with a real household name.

Disability Awareness Day

Apex Health & Social Care are proud sponsors of Disability Awareness Day

This Sunday 14th July, the world’s largest ‘not for profit’ volunteer-led disability exhibition will be held in the beautiful Walton Hall Gardens, Warrington.

Disability Awareness Day was created to highlight the services and support disabled and less able people and their carers and loved ones are entitled to receive, to promote breakthrough equipment which can improve lives and to showcase what people can do, with sports, activities, arts and entertainment.

From 10am – 5pm, a huge number of stalls and shows will be set up within the grounds of Walton Hall Gardens for this important event. We too will be there showing our support for the day and offering information to those interested in care and support services.

Apex HSC is thrilled to be a part of such an amazing and positive event in the name of improving lives and creating awareness of the challenges that face people living with disabilities.

We hope to see many familiar faces this weekend. If you have not attended a Disability Awareness Day before, why not come along?
